28 April, 2012: The Newest Graduates . . .
Thembalethu Nomandi, Rimeesh Abdeen, Wiseman Mili, Unathi Tombela, Thandolwethu Pungulwa, Godfrey Gonya, Luxolo Dweba, Akhona Potwana, Ayandisa Lindi, Siziwe Thoti, Tammy-Lee Bird, Elizabeth Chiliwe, Cheryl Rosi

All are working and doing well. They have made ICT and their families extremely proud. By the end of this year, ICT hopes to certify its 100th graduate.

desmond tutu

ICT catered an affair for the Out of Africa Children's Foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for South African children facing life-threatening and terminal illnesses, as well as coming to the aid of abandoned babies. ICT had the pleasure of feeding many beautiful and excited children, including the Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, always a child at heart.

New restaurants and hotels are joining the growing list of those who employ our graduates. We thank each of them and look forward to a prosperous and ongoing future.

outsource digital

ICT is pleased to announce our new relationship with Outsource Digital. Based in Johannesburg and specializing in cutting-edge business solutions, Outsource Digital has made an ongoing commitment in the sponsorship of four students throughout 2012. We are grateful to Ryan Pickford, Wayne Britz, Theo Wilken and all those at Outsource Digital for their support and belief. We trust that a long, fruitful relationship is in the future.

Wave

THE WAVE PROJECT has become an important new contributor of ICT by sponsoring the training of two young women. WAVE builds safehouses in Cambodia to shelter women who are victims of domestic violence. In sponsoring a young woman through our course, WAVE's efforts will spread to South Africa. Please visit WAVE and help in the work they're doing.

ICT wishes to express its thanks once again to Banks Kitchen Shop for donating the uniforms for the current session, and to Chef Trapps for donating the professional footwear. ICT is grateful to companies like these for their ongoing and generous support.

ICT is privileged to announce its alliance with Opportunity House, a United States non-profit organization based in Reading, Pennsylvania. Mr. Modesto Fiume, OH's President, Ms. Lorri Oziri, VP of Development, and the members of OH's Board of Directors have made it possible for ICT to recieve tax-deductible contributions within the United States. Further, interest has been expressed in seeing the ICT model expanded into the Reading community. We look forward to our efforts together continuing well into the future.

Our Mission ICT trains young, disadvantaged South African men and women in urgent need of employment. Our 12-week, intensive program teaches the basic cooking skills, life skills and professional tools necessary for immediate job placement in the restaurant and hospitality industries.

Through our expanding network of restaurants, our students are placed into professional internships that offer the opportunity to grow into full-time employment.

During each class session, ICT provides over 1,000 student meals.

Our Reality Most of our students live in gravely impoverished communities, neighborhoods strangled by a lack of education, drug abuse and violent crime. Once a student graduates our course and is placed in a job, it will likely mean that he or she will be supporting the household, putting food on the family table, raising children.

The results are far-reaching and sustainable. Yet no prospective student can afford the tuition. Each must be granted a scholarship.

All of ICT's operating expenses come from the care and generosity of individuals, businesses and foundations encouraged by our immediate impact. Our gratitude is immense for those who have contributed thus far. But our needs remain ongoing.

Proper funding will permit ICT to fufill a proven business model that includes becoming at least partially self-sustaining. We are opening a catering division and envision the building of restaurants and cafés staffed by students, as well as the creation of products and meal programs to aid needy South African communities.
