ICT congratulates its third session of graduates: Mio Chitsvuka, Nina Christians, Nicolene Damons, Nyarai Nyabadza and Nceba Nyoka. They are talented, hard working people of strong character. We trust that their current successes will extend well into the future....
ICT is privileged to announce a new alliance with Opportunity House, a United States non-profit organization based in Reading, Pennsylvania. Mr. Modesto Fiume, OH's President, Ms. Lorri Oziri, VP of Development, and the members of OH's Board of Directors have made it possible for ICT to recieve tax-deductible contributions within the United States. Further, interest has been expressed in seeing the ICT model expanded into the Reading community. We look forward to our efforts together continuing well into the future.
ICT is enormously grateful to The Ackerman Pick n Pay Foundation for its contribution of all the food costs for the upcoming September session. Thanks to the interest and efforts of Ms. Susan Ackerman, Ms. Leonora Sauls and Ms. Kelly Ramsay, ICT and The Ackerman Pick n Pay Foundation will will continue to help solidify ICT's future within South Africa.
ICT is proud to announce the addition of a new teacher, Mr. Shepherd Mutendera, a graduate of ICT's inaugural session. Shepherd will begin in September and take over from Mr. Milan Bastos, who did an outstanding job in the first two sessions of 2010. We wish Milan the best in his future and will be forever thankful for his tireless and triumphant efforts on behalf of the students.
ICT is grateful to Fahgmeeda Ameerodien of PRECO, Jemayne Andrews of Mayor Dan Plato’s office, and the Shanduka Foundation for their efforts and generous contributions in helping fund the current session.
STUDENT UNIFORMS: ICT wishes to express its thanks to Banks, who donated all the chefs jackets for the current session, as well as to Chef Trapps, who again assisted with some of the professional footwear. ICT is enormously grateful to companies like these for extending their generosity and support.
ICT trains young South African men and women in urgent need of employment. Our 12-week, intensive program offers the basic cooking skills and professional tools necessary to gain immediate job placement in the restaurant and hospitality industries.
Through our expanding network of restaurants, our students are placed into professional internships that offer the opportunity to grow into full-time employment.
Most of our students live in gravely impoverished neighborhoods, communities strangled by a lack of education, drug abuse and violent crime. Once a student graduates our course and is placed in a job, it will likely mean that he or she will be supporting the household, putting food on the family table, raising children. The results are far-reaching and sustainable.
Yet no prospective student can afford the tuition. Each must be granted a scholarship.
All tuitions and operating expenses come from the care and generosity of individuals and businesses encouraged by ICT's immediate impact. Our gratitude is immense to those who have contributed thus far. But our needs remain ongoing.
